We recently spent the night in Goliad, Texas while wandering from Kerrville to Rockport. I have wanted to visit Goliad for a long time because of the beautiful Mission and Presidio there. The Mission Nuestra Señora del Espíritu Santo de Zúñiga and the Presidio Nuestra Señora de Loreto de la Bahía moved here from their previous location on the Guadalupe River in 1749. The Presidio is the most fought over place in North America with the flags of nine different entities having flown over the fort. The first declaration of independence of the Republic of Texas was signed in the Presidio on December 20, 1835. Click here for a few photos from the area.
